India, 13th February 2023: Ayurveda is perceived as one of the most ancient and well-documented systems of medicine equally relevant in modern times. The Sanskrit term "Ayurveda" translates to "knowledge of life," and the principles of this ancient wisdom remind us that the entire web of life is intricately interwoven. As purveyors of a practice that is over 5000 years old, we enable people to embrace a life of natural goodness, wellness and longevity.
Today, there are plenty of books, articles - both online and offline, social media pages and much more that give information about Ayurveda - whether you want to make it a part of your life or simply want to gain knowledge. But, are all these sources reliable?
"NO," says Dr. Rekha Radhamony - a 4th generation Ayurvedic doctor from Kerala.
Dr. Rekha is an experienced Ayurvedic practitioner with patients from across the world. And her experience says that a good amount of people are misguided about Ayurveda - thanks to the business mindedness and modernisation in the field and hence, they carry a lot of false assumptions about it.

According to Dr, Rekha, one example is the online Dosha quizzes that really has got nothing to do with Doshas (biophysical energies), but are really about determining one's Prakriti (nature of the body that is decided at the time of conception).
According to Ayurveda, our life pre-dominantly depends on Prakriti and Dosha. All three Doshas are present in each individual. However, Prakriti is decided based on the predominance of Dosha. Ayurveda has very clear-cut protocols on each Dosha or each imbalance - what you should and should not eat and what is good and what is bad. Therefore, it is better to rely on an Ayurvedic doctor rather than such online quizzes to know, to improvise your entire well-being and let it all benefit the generations to come.
Dr. Rekha had attempted few such online quizzes and read many books on Ayurveda to better understand the landscape of Ayurveda abroad at the beginning of her career. And her findings are what led to her to insist on the concept of Unlearning Ayurveda - unlearning whatever people have learned and believed in from so-called "reliable sources" about Ayurveda and to walk through the real path, learning what the original scriptures of Ayurveda say.
Dr. Rekha intends to bring back the real traditional Ayurveda, without losing its essence in any form, allowing people to have an immersive experience of the mind and body - all with the help of Ayurvedic diet, routines, medicines, rejuvenation, Panchakarma treatment, detoxification therapies and Yoga.
However, Dr. Rekha wants everyone to know that there is no one-size-fits-all concept in Ayurveda. Everybody is different and that is why Ayurveda has different approach for treating each person, with focus on the root cause of their problem, their Prakriti, Dosha imbalances and more.
Dr. Rekha's vision is bring global acceptance to Ayurveda by making people aware of real Ayurveda- - something she has already been working on through her social media handles and health talks.
Apparently, after COVID, people have started to be extra health conscious and a good percentile of the masses has turned to nature for solutions, smoothly side-tracking Allopathy. And that is another reason Dr. Rekha is willing to spreading more awareness on living an Ayurvedic way of life.
Well, that brings us to a conclusion that Ayurveda does not treat just the symptoms, but also the root cause with focus on an individual's body nature and imbalances, thus promoting overall wellness and healing so that the health conditions do not come back in the long run. We, for sure, need more doctors like Dr. Rekha to instil the importance of this traditional system of medicine by imparting the real concepts over random content backed by half-baked knowledge and money mindedness.
