Shubh Raatri marked Karnika Mandal's Bollywood debut. Like Bhumi Pednekar who made her first unusual appearance with Dum Laga Ke Haisha , Karnika Mandal too played an overweight character with unique charm and ease.

Karnika Mandal honestly says, "There has always been a buzz around actors who lose or gain weight for films. I like be honest to the characters which has to be portrayed. Here, I play a South Indian homely girl named ‘Rajlaxmi'. She had to look cute and chubby too and thus I had to put on extra kilos for the film."

"Shubh Raatri is an interesting film with all the ingredients including suspense elements and hip-hop music. I enjoyed working in the film and it was a memorable experience for a newcomer like me. Renowned singer Shahid Mallya makes his debut as an actor. Mehul Bhojak who was seen in Dhoom, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai plays the role of playboy. Rahul Kumar role too is interesting. The respect and love I have received from the audience after watching the film is overwhelming," says Karnika Mandal.

Coming from a conservative family, Karnika Mandal opted to be a part of this glamour world. Earlier she did feature in music videos like Venus's Waqt Tham Sa Gaya Hai and O Sanam Mere Sanam and a web series titled Drishti Ke Dushman opposite Rahul Kumar.

Meanwhile, buzz is that she is a part of a South Indian film too. "In fact I have completed shooting for two films. One is for Chiranjeevi Productions' Telugu film titled as Akhila which is directed by Mohan Rao. The second one is a Bengali film, Bhalo Basha directed by Subrato Chandra. Both are now in its post-production stages and is expected to release in the first quarter of 2022. Then there is Awdesh Tiwari's woman-oriented film I'M Ready which will roll in January next year at Uttaranchal and Lucknow," reveals the actress.

She further adds, "I would love to act not only in Hindi and Southern films but also in Bengali and Marathi languages too. Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar are my favourite actors and I am looking forward to work with them. I like to be a part of good script, director and producer… In other words, whatever I am doing it will be exclusive."

Karnika Mandal is one of those newer stars' who is soon going to join the list of talented icons and the universally acclaimed actresses who can adapt easily to different genres and characters.
