Even Garba classes have cropped up all over the city to brush up those moves and get the energy back. While several classes may serve the purpose, Thangaat Garba is something very different.
Thangaat Garba was established in 2018 after almost ten years of experience in teaching garba on a small scale. The founders - Parth Patel and Ankit Upadhyaya - are winners at numerous garba events throughout Mumbai and have been teaching garba at schools, colleges, corporate and their own classes across India.
Ankit Upadhyaya and Parth Patel have also been esteemed panelists and judges for dance shows across Mumbai. "We were always passionate about innovating and teaching, and that's what our students loved the most. They learnt unique steps and techniques with us which helped them dance like us. We have been teaching Garba for almost a decade now, but on a small scale. in 2018, we established Thangaat Garba to go global. We aim to train every possible Garba lover across the globe with our web courses on our website www.thangaatgarba.com and create a bigger community and bigger Thangaat family," Parth tells us.
Thangaat promises to deliver something that most classes lack - not just teaching the same robotic movements that everyone teaches to âby-heart', they are all about putting soul into all the movements. While innovation is their main motive, so is making their students happy after they leave the class. "We want students to come to us for Garba, yes. And we believe if you have the right intention, you can learn anything from scratch. We do not differentiate between dancers and non-dancers, and respect anyone who wishes to learn this art form. For us, Navratri is about devotion, and also bringing people together just to dance their hearts out," expresses Ankit.
With 75+ regular & advance garba batches and 15+ Bollywood garba workshops, Thangaat makes all kinds of crowds comfortable - those wanting the authenticity and those wanting a little bit of variety in their moves with Bollywood songs. Recently, Ankit Upadhyaya was Assistant Choreographer for Amit Trivedi's new Garba anthem of 2022 Dhol. His expertise has also led him to conduct three workshops in USA that was attended by more than 150 students.
Parth Patel is another powerhouse of talent to learn from - he was recently assistant choreographer for a music video that comprises of one-hour non-stop Garba Songs by Falguni Pathak with 30 Thangaat Garba team members as a part of the video. He has also assisted Sonal Devraj - Popularly known as @bhaiyajiismile with Madhuri Dixit's dance video Boom Padi in Maja Ma Movie for Amazon Prime Music Video.
"Our only motive is to 'Garba your heart out' during Navratri and keep the traditional folk-dance of Gujarat alive. We are inclined towards influencing the youth of country to learn Garba and enjoy the feel of it," reveals Ankit Upadhyaya.
