A public interest commercial on smoking-related hazards is always shown before a film rolls. Taking off on this statutory warning, The Perfect Girl - Ek Simple Si Love Story opens with a disclaimer about how falling in love too can be hazardous to health, especially if it's unfulfilled love. The innovative start sets the pace, but the novelty fizzles out as soon as the clichés set in.

It is a sweet and simple love story alright, but doesn't exactly tug at your heartstrings. Nor does the longing and separation make you misty-eyed even for a nanosecond. Love is in the air, but at the same time, reincarnation and even sexual abuse are thrown in.

As the title suggests, the film is about a 30-something guy whose family is hunting for the perfect bride to get him hitched. They are worried about him getting ‘old' and his father wonders whether he should buy gajras for his long locks that he refuses to snip. Though constantly pressurised by his family and friends to get married, he isn't sure about it. Then there is the proverbial twist in the tale: a back-story of a chance encounter with a girl he had met 14 years ago during a holiday in Goa - and he can't seem to get her out of his head.

Debutant director and writer Prakash Nambiar tries to give the love story a fresh touch, but only if he had made it more heartwarming. The lead pair, Teeshay and Tara-Alisha Berry (who was seen in Mastram last year), appears to be sincere. But wish they could connect with the audience like they did with each other.
