Because financers feel it is too high-priced. Star to now make film on his own terms
Big corporate houses are not loosening their purse strings, even when it comes to big stars. They are hesitant about doling out mega bucks after having lost money on several big projects.
First Studio 18 let go of the Akshay Kumar and John Abraham starrer, because they found it very high-priced. And now, another Akshay starrer, to be directed by Priyadarshan, has been dropped by Eros International.
A source in the industry says, "Akshay was have kick-started his film Khatta Meetha with south actress Trishna opposite him. Eros was helping Akki financially in the project and was going to co-produce the venture with the actor's banner Hari Om Productions.
The budget agreed by them was close to 45 crores. The heads of Eros, however, felt that this film could easily be made for under 30 crores. They had a meeting with Akshay last weekend and voiced their misgivings about the budget. But Khiladi Kumar felt that the budget was appropriate and he didn't want to negotiate the figure."
He then tried to sell the film to other corporate companies, but they too felt that that budget was too high and they would never recover the money.
The actor has now decided that he will produce the film and finance it himself and make it on his own terms. The film is going to mount the sets by the end of this month.
Blast from the past!
Last month, Studio 18 backed out of the directorial debut of Rohit Dhawan, as they couldn't come to an agreement on the film's budget. The film was initially to be a co-production between Hari Om Productions and Studio 18 but now, the film is only attached to Akki's home banner and he will finance it himself.
