Arnold Schwarzenegger and his spouse, Maria Shriver, have announced their decision to dissolve their marriage of 25 years. CS does a recap on the actor and politician's personal history:
Back in 1977, Maria Shriver, niece of President John F Kennedy, first spotted 30-year-old Arnie at a celebrity tennis tournament. "I'm dying to meet him," she told a mutual friend who happily got the two introduced.u00a0
Before the day was out, Maria invited her future husband aboard a private plane headed for her family's house.u00a0
In 1986, Arnold married Maria, who was then a TV journalist, in Hyannis, Massachusetts.u00a0
In Arnold, Maria said she found a soulmate with a commitment to hard work and a love for politics.
The actor publically apologised after six women accused him of sexual harassment between 1975 and 2000.
Arnold once said he believes the secret of a good marriage is love and respect: "If you have the ultimate love for your wife and she has it for you, I think you have a great headstart. You go through your ups and downs but you work through it."
Though the two have announced their split and Maria has moved out of their Brentwood home, they spent Mother's Day together.
There have been reports from sources close to Maria who said she has been miserable for years and was thinking of divorcing Arnold as far back as 2009.
