The only big-banner film that hit theatres this week was 'Kapoor & Sons' and needless to say, it worked in their (the makers') favour. The film, which registered an average opening on Friday, saw a huge growth in business on Saturday and Sunday. The film minted Rs 6.35 crore on Friday, Rs 7.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 11.75 crore on Sunday, taking the total weekend collections to Rs 26.35 crore.

Says trade expert Amod Mehra, "The India-Pakistan match as well as the ongoing exams affected the film's initial box office performance. Even though it was a family film, it took a conservative opening on Friday. The cricket match hindered the collections to grow on Saturday but the positive word-of-mouth as well as critical acclaim helped the film's collections to nearly double on Sunday."
He adds, "The film needs to retain the momentum on weekdays, but to its advantage the next weekend is a long one and will help the film to sail through. The towering performance by Rishi Kapoor immensely helped the flick's collections."
Movie critic Taran Adarsh says, "'Kapoor & Sons' is doing very well overseas. It has overtaken Airlift's opening weekend collection, thus emerging as the hight grossing film of the year so far."
