In true Khiladi style, Akshay Kumar has wrapped up his year at the box office on a high note. After delivering three back-to-back hits - 'Baby', 'Gabbar Is Back' and 'Brothers', in that order - the actor has only raised the bar with his latest release, 'Singh Is Bliing' for a couple of reasons. One, the film has proved to be his biggest opener so far (Rs 20.67 crore on Friday). Two, it has clinched the second spot in the list of 2015's highest first weekend grossers, raking in Rs 54.44 crore.

Says trade pundit Amod Mehra, "A big advantage for 'Singh Is Bliing' was that it released on a national holiday (October 2), which preceded the weekend. On Saturday, the collections dropped only to rise the next day. The film now has to maintain the tempo through the weekdays to be declared a hit."
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh is of the opinion that 'Singh Is Bliing' has lived up to its hype. "It had a spectacular start and seems to have struck a chord with those who relish masala movies," he says.
On the other hand, the footfall for Meghna Gulzar's 'Talvar', which clashed with the Akshay-starrer, is slowly but steadily increasing. "The film has won over the critics as well as the gentry. It will easily break even since it has been made on a modest budget (nearly Rs 35 crore)," adds Mehra.
