Her label titled Shehlaa is barely a year old, and now 27-year-old designer Shehla Khan is raring to go ahead with her debut at the Fashion Week. Since the inception of her label, Khan's creations have already been sported by the likes of Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, and fashionista Sonam Kapoor is the face of her brand.
Khan comes from a family that has had an association with the best fashion houses in the world, due to her father Sajid Khan being a part of the embroidery business house that has catered to the likes of Valentino and Elie Saab. Her aunt Shamina Talyarkhan of Shameeza Embroideries too is a big name in the luxury fashion industry, her firm having embellished the outfits by names as big as Armani and Ralph Lauren.
"I grew up with the biggest names in fashion around me; as a child I was enamoured by them and knew I would want something to do with fashion in the future. I studied fashion, even worked as a stylist, but thought it was about time I create my own stuff," says Khan. Khan's outfits are known to exude a luxurious charm with embellishments and fabrics in soft pastels.
Her line for fashion week on Day 2, followed a similar vibe and was themed on boudoir or a women's dressing room. "The collection uses muted pastels, tonal to the skin, sheer fabrics, delicate embroidery, embroidery resembling lace - all depicting a woman's inner sanctum. It's sultry, but feminine and sophisticated, at the same time," says Khan.
The collection had a mix of saris, dresses, gowns and sheer skirts and blouses, which Khan tells us if worn with undershorts, can be a part of a western outfit but if with a full underskirt and dupatta it can work for Indian wear. While Sonam Kapoor might be her muse, Khan tells us that she idolises Karisma Kapoor (who walked for her) and would love to dress Diane Kruger or Jaime King from the international circuit. u00a0
