There was a time when plus size men and women were limited with choices. But with the festive season just around the corner, and many new plus size stores in the city, the options for those beyond the XL has grown wider.
Kalpana Punjabi from XMEX Plus Size Fashion, a boutique that focuses solely on plus size women, says, "Plus size women don't want to wear loose clothes anymore. They also want look gorgeous in dresses of different styles just like everyone else. But one that would fit them."
Punjabi advises plus size women to go for vertical stripes, square cuts and bold patterns as they distract the eyes from the shape of the body and camouflage the outline.
"Because it is a festive session, we have plenty of Indian and traditional clothes from plus size women. We also have casual attires in stock," she adds.

Women can also look beyond black, as stores are offering plenty of choices in shades like blue, purple and brown. Says Indeep Bindra, owner of the plus size store SO WHAT, "We try to fulfill our customers needs by providing them the type of clothes that they want, clothes in which they feel comfortable."
Bindra's store sees a lot of demand for dark casual clothes, and makes it a point to store more casuals in stock. "Those in the plus size usually go more for darker shades as they look slimmer in them, besides, they can wear it everyday.
So, we also keep formal clothes of certain brands but in a very limited number," he adds. As for plus size men, Bindra advises them to avoid bold patterns and go for slightly squared shoulders, vertical stripes shirts, low-rise bottoms (trousers) and dark coloured clothes.
