Kunal Ganjawala's busy rehearsing with music directors Ajay-Atul of the Natrang fame for a concert tomorrow at the Andheri Sports Complex. A big fan of Lataji, Ashaji, Kishore Kumar, Mukeshji and Quincy Jones, Prince, Beatles, U2 and the Bristish pop bands, Kunal talks about his music:
For a cause
The concert is actually a Marathi musical show where all the singers, who've worked with Ajay-Atul, will perform towards an initiative towards Save Water Project. I think it's a worthy cause and we want to contribute our bit to it. All the songs sung will be those who've made it to the Chartbuster list. I'm going to sing for around half-an-hour and will start with my song Varya warti, which won me and the director duo our first State Award. I have great respect for the two and am excited to perform tomorrow evening.
Tongue twister
My mother and my grandmom are Maharashtrians, so I speak fluently in Marathi. But I don't understand its grammar. I love singing Marathi songs and am thankful for the opportunity to sing in Marathi. Also, since I live in Maharashtra, it shouldn't be so surprising that I can speak the local tongue. If I was in any other state, I'm sure I'd have picked up that language just by hearing it.
Full house
People keep approaching me to host musical TV shows. But I don't want to take up anything unless it's out-of-the-box. At present, I want to concentrate on my music. I've sung for Raavan, Bois, a Yash Raj film, Khatta Meetha, couple of songs for Pritam Chakraborty and Salim-Suleiman. In fact, I'm awaiting the release of six films for which I've sung for music director Sandesh Shandilya, who gave me my first big break.
