This wrestler has no time for love. Girls are scared of me, laughs Sushil Kumar.

This wrestler has no time for love. "Girls are scared of me," laughs Sushil Kumar. This champion wrestler, who has continued his winning streak after his surprising win at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and his latest victory at the World Championships in Moscow, hasn't been able to find time to win a lady's heart. Now busy with the upcoming Commonwealth Games, Sushil talks to CS about his hectic schedule:

WHO: Wrestler Sushil Kumar
WHAT: Talking about his life as a sportsman

Medal magic

I am very happy with the love and respect people have showered on me in the past couple of years. I have to live up to their expectations. We have been training really hard for the Commonwealth Games and hope to win a lot of medals. I am working at improving my speed on the mat, which makes a lot of difference. It's unfortunate that the Commonwealth Games has drawn a lot of negative publicity but athletes can't focus on that. Our job is to win medals.u00a0

Mind over matter
Contrary to what people believe, wrestling is not just about brawn. You need to apply your mind to it too. The brain needs to be at work constantly to get the better of your opponent. Mental fitness is a must. A portsman's life is one of wins and losses. One has to stay motivated throughout to survive in this field.u00a0

You're the inspiration...
My coach, Satpalji is my biggest strength. I also look up to Sachin Tendulkar, who is such a great example of all Indian sportsmen. In wrestling, there are some Russian professionals who are great competitors and friends off the field. The recent win at Moscow has also motivated me tremendously.u00a0u00a0

All for the sport
My daily training begins at 3.30am in the morning, and I train daily for four-eight hours. After a training session, I just hit the bed, it's so exhausting. At times, I unwind by watching films on TV or else by playing volleyball or basketball. There is no time to go shopping, or to the theatre. Every six months, I go back home for a holiday. No, that's not because I have a girlfriend back there (smiles). Girls are scared of me, even the female wrestlers. We might be one big happy family, but they avoid me (laughs out loud).u00a0u00a0
