Kartik Aaryan essayed the role of a journalist in 2019's romantic comedy, Luka Chuppi and so did his co-star Kriti Sanon. Sanon played a journalist again in Arjun Patiala and Aaryan is also ready to don the hat of a journalist again in Neerja and Aarya director Ram Madhvani's next.
A source informed SpotBoyE, "The entire film unfolds in one media office. There are only 5-6 characters. It is a very intimate low-budget one-set film and Kartik accepted it because he wants to work with directors who can tap his acting chops, also because he wants to do films far removed from the lightweight comedies he has become typecast in."

The source also added what Aaryan told Madhvani when he narrated him the script. It revealed, "When he met Ram, Kartik's only precondition before signing the film was, 'I want this film to do for me what your Neerja did for Sonam."

Aaryan was also seen this year in Imtiaz Ali's Love Aaj Kal with Sara Ali Khan. He now has Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 with Anees Bazmee that also stars Tabu and Kiara Advani, a film with Tanhaji director Om Raut, and is also on board for the remake of Allu Arjun's Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.
Also, it was widely reported last month that Kartik Aaryan, who had a dream run in 2019 with hits in Luka Chuppi and Pati Patni Aur Woh, was in talks with Eros International for a three-film deal. While details of the projects were kept under wraps, it was heard that the multi-crore agreement included profit-sharing on each film, thus catapulting the actor to the big league. However, buzz in the trade circles indicates that the deal has fallen through.
A source revealed, "Kartik and the head honchos of Eros International were negotiating over the past few months. The studio had apparently offered him a five-year blind contract wherein the concepts of the films were not provided to him. As a result, the deal has been held off due to creative differences. Both parties hope to pursue the discussion at a later stage."
