Outshining the two-day collection of revered celebrities' debut ventures, Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter-starrer Dhadak earned an applaudable Rs 19.75 crore over Friday and Saturday. The Hindi remake of 2016's Marathi blockbuster, Sairat, collected Rs 8.71 on the first day of its release, with its second day collection surging by 30 per cent.
Talking to mid-day yesterday, trade expert Amod Mehra says Sunday's figures too looked promising. "The film's three-day collection should be about Rs 35 crore. The film is likely to continue performing well, and be fairly profitable."
While Mehra says comparisons of Dhadak with Sairat are "unfair", trade-smith Amul Mohan says the success of the latter is also to be credited for this film's earnings. "The popularity of the original film created curiosity about this version. Also, people were curious to see Janhvi and Ishaan, neither of who has disappointed. The word of mouth is positive too, which has translated into good numbers."
Mehra also adds that fans of the late Sridevi were eager to see the magic her daughter creates on the big screen. "The film has also appealed to the young and the old. With only Saheb Biwi Aur Ganngster-3 releasing next week, Dhadak will enjoy an extended successful run."
