Paltan based on Sino-Indian 1967 military clash, not 1962 war

When JP Dutta announced Paltan in September last year, it was speculated that the war drama revolved around the 1962 Sino-Indian war. Now, mid-day has learnt that contrary to rumours, the Arjun Rampal, Sonu Sood and Gurmeet Choudhary starrer traces India's victory against China in the Nathu La and Cho La military clashes of 1967, that took place along the Sikkim border.

A source from the trade reveals, "Paltan kicks off against the backdrop of the 1962 Indo-China war, but the Indo-China military clashes of 1967 forms the main crux of the story. It was a decisive victory by the Indian armed forces over the Chinese and that's what attracted JP to the plot."

Sonu Sood

While India lost the 1962 war to the invading Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), the Indian posts at Nathu La were under attack again on September 11, 1967. The four-day military clash ended with the Indian troops driving the PLA back. On October 1 of the same year, another clash between India and China took place at Cho La.

JP Dutta

As the film's poster releases today, Dutta, as an homage to the jawans, has featured soldiers of the Indian Army on it. The filmmaker says, "In 1962, the Chinese started the war, and in 1967, we ended it for them. It's an important part of our history."
