After recent controversy with Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, his biopic might not happen
Percept Picture Company had announced plans to make a biopic on the life of IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.
On the backburner
Directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, the film was titled The Commissioner. However with the IPL administrator's involvement in the recent controversy with Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, the project has now been put on the backburner.
An insider from the production house reveals, "The film is a rags-to-riches story of Modi's rise. The research team had put together all the material on his life, but recent events have put a spanner in the works. The creative team now wants to rewrite theu00a0 script, and add recent developments in the storyline. However, Modi will have the last word on what stays and what gets edited out from the script."
Apart from the controversy, the massive budget and casting a lead actor for the role has also been a problem. "Playing Lalit Modi isn't going to be easy. There are a very few people who have direct access to him and know his true nature. Hence, finding an actor who can capture his personality, the way he walks, talks and interacts with people off camera will be quite a task."
Commenting on the film's delay, PPC head Shailendra Singh says, "The story research is happening now. We are going slow on the film due to costs involved. It's a big film and currently, the box office and satellite purchase is quite slow."
