Nandita Das
Having been unanimously selected by her co-jurors as president, Nandita Das is among the panel judging the 2018 edition of the Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-Violence at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France.
Das - along with professor Nadia Bernoussi, an academic and legal expert from Morocco, Abdoulaye Konate, prominent artist and cultural voice in Mali -comprises the jury. This prize awards individuals, institutions, other entities and non-governmental organisations that have made exceptional contributions in the promotion of tolerance and non-violence. It will be held later this year.
Talking to mid-day, Das says, "It was rejuvenating to receive an invite to participate in a meaningful initiative like this one. Having been on many film juries, I have enjoyed the deliberation process. One gets to know perspectives that reflect varied experiences and contexts." Das asserts that engagements where she meets people participating in commendable initiatives is inspiring. She admits the process to zeroing in on a winner is tedious. "I had to review profiles of the candidates from across the globe. Then, we had to deliberate to arrive at a consensus during a meeting in Paris."
