The Oscars will be honoring the best film and work put into it that were released in 2016 on February 26th, 2017 in the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. Here's are some of these nominated films that you should definitely watch before the award ceremony


The Oscars will be honouring the best film and work put into it that were released in 2016 on February 26th, 2017 in the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California which will be hosted by the famous talk show host, Jimmy Kimmel for the first time. The polls for voting close today, and in about a week we'd have the deserving and most voted for personas go away with the prestigious award. These films have been chosen for their intricate specialities in their own field, with the most diverse nominations, increasing the magnitude of appreciation from work all around the world. Some of these nominated films that you should definitely watch before the award ceremony are:

'Lion' - 'Lion' has marked it's presence on the global cinema and is to hit the cinemas on 24th February in India, two days prior to the Award Show. The celebrities confessed to be overwhelmed by the script at the screenings all over. Even the cast dealt with an emotional turmoil after meeting the real life- Saroo and his mother. The film is based on a true incident, faced by Saroo Brierley, which is inked in his book, 'A Long Way Home', delicately about how as a kid he lost his way from home and ended up being adopted by an Australian family only to find back his trails to India, where he initially lived, after 25 years. The lead includes Dev Patel, Nicole Kidman, Rooney Mara, David Wenham and the young star, Sunny Pawar. Garth Davis, marked his directorial debut and had gone through a tremendous cast search before finding the perfect leads. He wanted to do just to the characters portrayed by the actors to the people who actually went through the pain. The film has been nominated at the 89th Academy Awards for, 'Best Picture' to Emile Herman, Iain Canning ad Angie Fielder, 'Best Supporting Actress' to Nicole Kidman, 'Best Supporting Actor' to Dev Patel, 'Best Adapted Screenplay' to Luke Davies, 'Best Original Score' to Dustin O'Halloran and Hauschka, ' Best Cinematography' to Greig Fraser, compiling to a solid 6 nominations.

'Arrival' - 'Arrival' is an American Science Fiction movie, that released last year, directed by Denis Villeneuve, adapted form the 1998 short story and novella, 'Story of Your Life' by Ted Chiang. The cast includes Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. The film revolves around the plot of saving the Earth from a formerly misinterpreted message from the aliens that causes nations to put military forces together to initiate a war against aliens. Louise manages to stop the destruction by a vision she has. Ian, who had been by her side through it all, confesses his love for her. The ending is a little unexpected where Louise has another vision, which happens to be the reason why Ian leaves her after they are married in the future. The movie has bagged 7 nominations, including 'Best Film Editing', 'Best Picture', 'Best Director', ' Best Adapted Screenplay', 'Best Sound Mixing', ' Best Production Design' and 'Best Cinematography'.

'La La Land' - By far, this already released film has caught the most criticism. It was released in 2016, an American musical rom-com drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. I's about a struggling jazz pianist who falls in love with an aspiring actress. The truth of life, in the end, is hat left us all breathless. Though, the characters had chemistry, they fell apart and moved on with their lives, only to stumble upon each other five years later, realising how they grew. Mia, role played by Emma, had married someone else and had a daughter, while Sebastian, Ryan Gosling started his own club, where they met. He played their love theme leading to a dream sequence, which is a 'what if' their relationship had worked out perfectly. The film has not only embraced the criticism really well but also has been nominated for, 'Best Picture', 'Best Actress', 'Best Actor', ' Best Original Screenplay', 'Best Original Score', ' Best Original Song' to ' The Fools Who Dream', 'Best Sound Editing, 'Best Sound Mixing', ' Best Production Design, ' Best Cinematography' , ' Best Film Editing', ' Best Costume Design'.

'Hackshaw Ridge' - 'Hackshaw Ridge' is a 2016 biographical war drama film, directed by Andrew Knight and Robert Schenkkan, that revolves around the e World War II experiences of Desmond Doss, an American pacifistic combat medic who refused to carry or use arms as he was a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian. Doss later on happens to become the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor for his services and courage to stick to his ethics. The movie's cast consist of Andrew Garfield, as Doss along with Sam Worthington, Luke Bracey, Teresa Palmer, Hugo Weaving, Rachel Griffiths and Vince Vaughn. The movie was also picked by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten, 'Movies of The Year'. At the Academy's however, it managed to get into the nominations for, 'Best Picture', 'Best Director', 'Best Actor' to Andre, ' Best Sound Mixing', ' Best Sound Editing', ' Best Film Editing'.

'Moonlight' - 'Moonlight' is a 2016 American drama movie, based on the play, 'In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue' by Tarell Alvin McCraney. The film is directed by Barry Jenkins, starring Trevante Rhodes, Andre Holland, Janelle Monae, Ashton Sanders, Jharrel Jerome, Naomie Harris and Mahershala Ali. The film won the 74th Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Drama apart from being nominated for five different categories. Shiron, the character is shown into three stages of his life, as a shy child, then as a teenager and finally into an adult. It is based on an uncommon wise outlook on the three crucial stages of life, imparting some sense of realisation. The film will be seen in the nominations for, 'Best Picture' , ' Best Director' , ' Best Suporrting Actress' to Naomie Harris, ' Best Supporting Actor' to Mahershala Ali , ' Best Adapted Screenplay' , ' Best Original Score', ' Best Cinematography' and ' best Film Editing'.
