Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju has been doing stupendous business at the box office even weeks after its release. The Ranbir Kapoor starrer, a biopic on actor Sanjay Dutt, has collected over Rs. 300 crore domestically, whereas overall, the biopic has garnered more than Rs.500 crore. While the film has been criticised for being a mere PR tool to whitewash the actor's image, there are some who absolutely loved it.
Well, now that we already have a biopic on Sanjay Dutt, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has promised that he will make another biopic on the star, reported Mumbai Mirror. The Company director feels that Sanjay Dutt's biopic, Sanju just peripherally showed about the connection of possesing an AK-56 rifle around the 1993 Mumbai blast case. However, sources informed the publication saying that Varma's movie will focus only on this part of his life. It also suggests that the film has tentatively been titled, 'Sanju: The Real Story'. Ram Gopal Varma confirmed the news and told the daily, "Yes, I am making the film."
According to a source, Ram Gopal Varma watched Hirani's Sanju and loved it for its emotional intensity. He was disappointed that it only dealt with the actor's brush with law in the backdrop of the 1993 blasts only peripherally. "That Dutt was doing drugs, was traumatised by his mother's battle with cancer [she died just three days before the release of his first film Rocky], had multiple flings, many of them onenight stands, is all well documented," said the source.
Adding to it the source also said that people wanted was background information, which could only be given by Sanjay on this controversy, which dogged him for over two decades.
However, Varma's film will dig deeper into details like who were the people who threatened Dutt's family - spurring him to acquire the rifle that got him in trouble - how the firearm was delivered to him, and how it was disposed of, reported the tabloid.
