Ratna Pathak Shah makes another rare B-Town outing in Sujoy Ghosh's Aladin that features Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh and newbie Jacqueline Fernandes.
The actress essays the role of the canteen owner in Riteish's college and is someone whom he confides in.
A strong bond
Says Ratna, "I am like a mother figure to Riteish's character. Since he is a parentless boy, he is quite a loner and shy. He trusts me and there is a strong bond between us."
Naseeruddin Shah's wife hasn't done too many films. "I am quite selective about films and the last one I did was Jaane Tu. Something special has to be there for me to be seen on the big screen. Along with Jaane Tu, Aladin was the only other film that really made me say yes," she says.
Four years back, she was only heard in Amol Palekar's Paheli as the voice of the female puppet along with Naseer. Her earlier films include Yun Hota To Kya Hota (2006), The Perfect Murder (1988) Mirch Masala ('85) Mandi ('83) and Heat and Dust ('83).
Ratna keeps herself busy with their theatre troupe Motley's productions. On the small screen, she is best remembered for her role in Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai which still has repeat runs.
