Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in Street Dancer
Remo D'Souza kicks off the fifth season of his reality show, Dance+, this weekend. The choreographer-director will have to juggle his judging duties with the post-production of his next, Street Dancer 3D. Though the shoot of the Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor starrer wrapped up earlier this year, the director has allotted months to the post-production, aware that employing 3D technology can be a time-consuming affair.
"Dance is a visual treat and what better way to capture it than in this format? I wanted the audience to see the third dimension. We see dance only on television and in films," says D'Souza, whose last two musicals - ABCD (2013) and ABCD 2 (2015) - employed the technology. While horror and action flicks have long enjoyed the advantages of the format, the director is surprised that it hasn't been explored as much for dance offerings. "The reason I made Street Dancer in 3D was simple; I wanted audience to feel that Varun and Shraddha are dancing in the theatre with them, or that they are in the film with the stars."
One to give platforms to budding artistes, D'Souza has roped in several contestants of Dance+ in the Republic Day 2020 release. "It features not only those who were selected for the show, but also those who auditioned."
