Director Nagesh Kukunoor is a relieved man. After a long wait, his film on a young man's inspiring journey in life is set to release in theatres. CS caught up with the Hyderabad Blues director for a chat:
Wanting to innovate
Making every film is like going to a war, you have to marshal your forces, fight and hope for victory. I have always tried to make films in different genres to challenge myself as a film maker.
But I guess people feel that I can only tell social or human interest stories like Iqbal, Dor, Rockford, etc, which probably explains why they didn't like Bombay to Bangkok or 8x10 Tasveer. However, this won't stop me from experimenting with different stories.u00a0
Honestly, every filmmaker has a set of sensibilities. The idea is to be true to oneself as a director/storyteller. However, our audience is ready for all kinds of stories. Amongst the new crop of filmmakers, I admire Anurag Kashyap as he's constantly trying to tell a new story with every film.u00a0
My favourite films
I like to watch films depending on my mood. Some of my all time favourite films are Maya Bazaar, Sagara Sangamam, Nayakan, Sholay and Bawarchi. In Hollywood flicks, I can watch Indian Jones- Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Terminator 2, The Shawshank Redemption any time.u00a0
