Remaking a monument: A scene from Slumdog Millionaire |
Danny Boyle was refused permission to shoot at the Taj Mahal in Agra. The Slumdog Millionaire director was to shoot an important scene at the heritage site. However, since he was denied the opportunity, Danny was left with no other choice but to recreate the monument on a set.
Sources reveal that Danny approached Nitin Desai to recreate the Taj Mahal. "Boyle was impressed with Nitin's work on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Danny had heard about Desai and knew he was the right guy to approach for his film."
Says Nitin, "I do the sets for the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire in Asia. Danny had seen the sets I made and was impressed with them."
After observing Nitin's work, Danny decided to ask him to recreate the Taj. "Recreating a set for the Taj Mahal takes a lot of hard work and time. However, since I have done a lot of reading on the monument, it was easy for me. We created the interiors and also a dargah for a scene."
Adding that he's looking forward to work with Boyle again, Desai says, "He's one of the finest directors I've worked with. I didn't think the film would get such world-wide acclaim, but I'm happy and proud to be a part of it."
