Desi Boyz

Genre: comedy
Director: Rohit Dhawan
Star: one and half
When a young guy makes his debut as a director and ends up dishing out the stale, tasteless fare, the disappointment is twice as much.
At the outset, Desi Boyz (that z in the title made me cringe even before watching the film) dealing with two hard working fellas turning gigolos because of recession, might have held some promise of a sensitive story line. But Rohit Dhawan's movie manages to take it to a level which veers between the utterly ridiculous to plain unbelievable.
Two college friends, Jerry Patel (Akshay) and Nick (John) decide to take up the profession of being male escorts when they are laid off due to recession. They have a veteran gigolo, Sanjay Dutt to mentor them. The movie makes this otherwise shady profession look so glorious, that don't be surprised if some impressionable youths now aspire to be male escorts. All Jerry and Nick have to do is dance at bachelorette parties amidst semi nude women and still emerge being the wonderful twosome just gone astray for a bit.
While the first half has some fleetingly funny moments, in the second half the movie collapses altogether. At one point it seemed like no one, not the script writer, not the director and definitely not the actors had even an inkling of what was going on.u00a0 And to top it all, a few 'poignant' issues were casually thrown in, like Akshay Kumar informing how great India is, to a clueless firang professor etc.. No even those yawn inducing seen it before moments could help the movie qualify to be even called decent. Sorry did I use the word decent? Shouldn't have with this film. Akshay Kumar is pretty good,u00a0 However, can't say the same about the rest of the cast, John, Deepika and Chitrangada. Don't really blame them. This mish mash of a movie just didn't deserve any better.
