Aren't there times when a scene in a film elicits unwitting humour? Recently, a scene in 'Jai Ho' had Suniel Shetty, who plays an army man coming to his friend Salman Khan's rescue mounted atop a military tank. The sequence made many howl in laughter. Such kind of amusement is not new to Bollywood. We list a few examples
Kambakht Ishq
The film's inane plot left us sniggering in disbelief for a little more than two hours. Kareena Kapoor is a doctor who leaves her watch inside Akshay Kumar's stomach while doing a surgery on him. The watch rumbles âOm Mangalam' every hour or so. In order to retrieve her watch, she dons a bikini and gets intimate with him, only to make him unconsciousness in a bid to operate on him. With the film bombing at the BO, this surgery was a total disaster.
Singham
Ajay Devgn is all set to fight his opponents. A car speeds towards him. Ajay aims and shoots at the vehicle which does a somersault and lands just ahead of him, but not before Ajay has pulled out the driver from the car's window. And all this in mid-air!
Clerk
Well, this scene is an epic one. Ashok Kumar gets a heart attack and the doctor refuses to come to his aid. Suddenly, Manoj Kumar comes up with a solution. He says, âMere paas iska ilaaj is tape-recorder mein hai' and plays the patriotic âKadam badhaye jaa, khushi ke geet gaaye ja'. The next thing we see is Ashok Kumar's feet moving to the marching orders in bed. In a true Bollywood ishtyle moment, he gets up and does the march past. The heart attack is forgotten but the stomach ache viewers got from rolling in laughter is historical!
Gangster
Unintended humour somehow manages to crop up in the most tightly woven films. Anurag Basu's taut thriller Gangster had only one sore point i.e. when a beaten up Shiney Ahuja reaches out to Kangna Ranaut with a âsindoor ka dibba'. While the scene would be quite in sync with a '80s masala flick, it only earned sniggers and tsk's in this plot of passion, crime and betrayal.
Dil Kya Kare
Ajay Devgan and Kajol are two strangers sharing a train compartment. A few goons attempt to rape Kajol and Ajay foils the plan. The grateful victim looks into his eyes, and lo the two are making out in the same spot the very next moment. The film was an average grosser but it definitely conveyed that carnal instincts can boil faster than instant noodles.
Krishan avtaar
Mithun Chakraborty's action spinners in the '80s-90s have scenes that have attained cult status with Bollywood buffs. Check this out, in Krishan Avtaar he's an honest cop with a deadly brain tumour. In the climax, he gets hit by a bullet that pierces through his head and destroys the tumour. And of course, he comes out of the operation theatre hale and hearty.
In another film, Watan Ke Rakhwale, Mithun's in jail and desperately wants to get out. Forget a rescue plan, he simply does the Spiderman act by crawling over the jail wall that must be about 50-60 feet high and jumping over. Whatever happened to gravity?
What were they thinking
>> Shashi Kapoor makes love to Zeenat Aman in Satyam Shivam Sundaram, who plays his wife cum mistress by just covering her charred face.
>> In Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Amitabh Bachchan is tied and thrown into a crocodile-infested pit. He uses a snake to untie himself and marches towards Amrish Puri carrying the croc on his back!
>> In Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Shah Rukh Khan loses his memory and forgets Katrina Kaif. But he regains it only to lose it again. Talk about a âforgettable film'.
