Though he's all set to represent Pune Warriors in the IPL, the angry young man of Indian cricket, Yuvraj Singh, does concede that he's seen both good times and bad. And through it all, he's worked hard to keep his sanity. Yuvi talks to CS:
There are times when I'm so tired of being in the public eye and newspaper columns that I crave for some time by myself. Being under the scanner constantly does put a lot of pressure on me. That's when I take time out to be at home, relax and maybe, read a book.
Having said that, being a cricket celebrity is also very fulfilling. It's great to give back to your country. We also manage to bring a smile on people's faces and help them forget their daily strugglesu00a0-- that's the power of victory.
Fan-fare
It's no secret that India is a cricket crazy nation. I have seen people travelling miles, standing in queues for hours under the scorching sun, just to get one glimpse of us. I remember, once we were playing a game in Cuttack and were staying in Bhubhaneshwar, a good 45 minutes drive away.
The entire highway had people standing on both sides of the road in the hot sun just to see our bus pass by. It was like a never-ending human chain from the stadium to our hotel. That was one experience that made me realise how lucky I was to be playing for such loyal and passionate supporters.
Food for the soul
Cricket is my life and I'm not sure I can see myself doing anything else. But if I wasn't a cricketer, I would still have been a sportsperson. I used to love my tennis and skating. Not many people know that I did reasonably well as a junior skater in age group tournaments.
But I think I would have been a tennis player if I wasn't playing cricket. Or else, I would have opened a chain of restaurants across India. I really like to see people having a good time while dining out. In fact, I really enjoy to have a relaxed meal with family and friends. Nothing works better than food.
