Sajid Nadiadwala and Sudeep
A simultaneous chess game between Viswanathan Anand and several other celebrities has raised Rs 10 lakh, but left a few reputations in tatters. After investment start-up Zerodha's founder Nikhil Kamath was suspended for cheating against the five-time world champion, it is now the turn of Bollywood biggie Sajid Nadiadwala and his Sandalwood counterpart Sudeep to be thrown out by popular gaming site, chess.com.
All three were banned for using an engine in their Sunday night charity game with Anand to raise funds for Covid-relief measures. Unlike Kamath, who cheated his way to a win (!) the two filmy men had the sense to lose eventually, "after putting up a good fight" against the king.
Checkmate Covid, organised by chess.com, was held on June 13 and will be live-streamed on their YouTube channel. Sajid Nadiadwala, Riteish Deshmukh, Arijit Singh and Ananya Birla are also part of the event. The event was organized to encourage more and more people to come forward and donate towards serving individuals and families who are at risk of hunger amidst Covid-19.
Chess buff Aamir Khan was also supposed to play an exhibition match against former world champion and Indian chess grandmaster Viswanathan Anand as part of a fund-raiser for virus relief measures. We hope Aamir Khan, who also participated, and got into an inferior position early on but fought valiantly for a loss, remained the true gentleman he is.
Aamir Khan has taken on Anand in a match earlier, and the grandmaster has reportedly said that he would like Mr Perfectionist to play him in his biopic.
