Daniel Fernandes
Stand-up comic Daniel Fernandes is facing backlash for his jokes about Sushant Singh Rajput. His act was found to be 'insensitive' by the late actor's fans, who have been trolling the comedian. His gag also includes the media frenzy that followed SSR's death, and the country's obsession with Rhea Chakraborty. On Thursday, Fernandes posted on Instagram that he will "not be bullied by people who do not understand satire." He added, "If you do not like it, don't watch it." Earlier, he also shared the meaning of satire, which refers to "the use of humour to expose and criticise people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."
As social media threats and a call to boycott the video, which Fernandes has uploaded on social media continues, Sushant Singh Rajput's fans are also demanding his arrest. Fernandes said the only apology he has to make is "about saying that Rhea Chakraborty has been acquitted of her charges, when she has been released on bail. I stand by everything else that I have said." Fernandes further wrote that as a comedian his aim is to entertain and make people laugh, but in "this endeavour it is possible that I might also evoke an unfavourable response."
