Kangana Ranaut

Kangana Ranaut created an uproar for declaring that India attained "real freedom in 2014", when the Narendra Modi-led government came to power, and describing the country's Independence in 1947 as "bheek". The actor, known for her provocative and often inflammatory statements was once again the centre of debate and ire. While the Aam Aadmi Party submitted an application to the Mumbai Police demanding that a case be registered against her for "seditious and inflammatory" comments, politicians across the spectrum, including BJP MP Varun Gandhi, were among the social media users and others who reacted with outrage at Ranaut's comments at an event organised by a television channel. Varun tweeted, "Insulting the sacrifice of Mahatma Gandhi sometimes, praising his killer sometimes, and now the disdain for the sacrifices of lakhs of freedom fighters. Should I call this thinking madness or treason?"

The end of a journey

On Thursday, after 103 days of filming, director Om Raut announced the wrap-up of Adipurush starring Saif Ali Khan, Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Sunny Singh. "A wonderful journey has come to its finish line. I can't wait to share with you the magic we have created," he posted. In an adaptation of the Ramayan, Prabhas and Khan reprise the roles of Lord Ram and Lankesh, respectively. ‘'Hats off to you for completing such a massive film so soon. One of my best experiences. Miss being on your set. Lovely memories,'' Sanon added.

New beginnings

Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017) director Shashank Khaitan has floated his production banner, Mentor Disciple Films. The writer-director said, "I have been fortunate to have outstanding mentors, and it is with this intention that I decided to help budding writers and directors." He is currently filming Mr Lele starring Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar.

Bow wow

Ahead of Children's Day (November 14), a Compassionate Kid Award is on the way from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India to Anya Kunder, 13, daughter of Farah Khan and Shirish Kunder, in recognition of her work to help homeless animals during the pandemic. Strays are dependent on restaurant waste, and many struggled on the streets during the lockdown. Anya came to their rescue by sketching animals and selling the artwork for Rs 1,000 to support neglected animals. She raised Rs 4 lakh for numerous animal welfare charities, including PETA India.

Freezing climes

Parineeti Chopra is shooting in Kargil for an untitled film. It is the first time that she is filming in sub-zero temperatures. "We are shooting in -18 and -12 degrees. The water in bottles turns into ice. The guys with facial fuzz on our set have frozen beards," says the actor. "It is crazy to see this level of cold. I have never experienced such a situation, but it still feels exciting to be here and shooting in these gorgeous locations," she adds.

A deep sense of gratitude

Khajoor Pe Atke (2018) and Beecham House (2019) actor Vicky Arora features in the Amazon Prime Video web series, Akkad Bakkad Rafu Chakkar, helmed by late director Raj Kaushal. "It took me 6,210 auditions, double the time in rejections and nine years to get to my first lead role on a major platform. I'm not here by luck. I am the definition of hard work. I'm here because Raj Kaushal knew what I was capable of doing. He believed in me, and I will be forever grateful," says Arora, who is also a martial artist.

The desi Archie, Betty, Veronica are on the way

There had been speculation and now it's official. Zoya Akhtar is collaborating with Netflix for a film based on Archie Comics. The coming-of-age story unfolds in 1960s India. "The characters are iconic and globally loved. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic," says Akhtar. Though the cast was not revealed, there is chatter that Shah Rukh Khan's daughter Suhana, Boney Kapoor's daughter Khushi and Amitabh Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda will make their debut with the
musical.

A year older

On Thursday, Boney Kapoor clocked 66 years. Daughter Janhvi took to social media to share a glimpse of the celebration with uncle Sanjay Kapoor. She wrote, "Happy birthday, father. The best man in the world. I love you." Younger daughter Khushi posted, "Happy birthday, papa. Love you the most." Son Arjun shared, "Being selfless isn't something that can be taught. It's inbuilt and exists among very few people. I happen to be the son of one of those people. I've seen and heard stories of dad going out of his way to help find solutions for others and forgetting to help himself."

Overcoming ocean phobia

Vicky Kaushal will unleash his adventurous side on Into the Wild with Bear Grylls. It was not easy for the actor to be a part of the adventure show due to his fear of the ocean. "I have never ventured into the deep sea. I've never got into even shallow waters. If it was not for Bear Grylls, I would have not been able to overcome my phobias," says Kaushal. "The thought of being in the middle of an ocean and not having a floor beneath is not easy. It was my first time in the deep, but Bear's constant motivation and determination helped me rise out of this triumphantly," adds the actor, who shot for the series in the Maldives.
