Koi Jaane Na is close to Kunal Kapoor's heart for two distinct reasons. The thriller not only marks friend Amin Hajee's directorial debut, but also sees the actor essay the role of an author. For someone who has grown up around books and took to writing at a young age, Kapoor was thrilled to depict his passion on the screen. "When I started out as an assistant director, I began writing stories that I want to make eventually. I have been developing a bunch of scripts. Since writing comes naturally to me, I didn't have to make an effort to understand this character," he says.

In the psychological thriller, Kapoor's author, who heads to Panchgani to write a new novel, harbours a dark secret. Knowing only too well that the genre demands clever writing, he admits he was apprehensive before sitting down for the narration with Hajee. "When you have a friend coming to narrate a script, you get uncomfortable. You worry that if [the material] is not good, how will you say no without it affecting your relationship. But after he finished the narration, it took me 30 seconds to give my nod."
