Deepika Padukone has always been a vocal advocate for the recognition of mental health struggles. The actress has been championing the cause ever since she came out in 2015 with her own struggles with mental health. The Pathaan actress has been vocal about educating our nation on the different kinds of struggles one can have with mental health.
Deepika was also massively trolled for bringing this issue to the forefront. Despite the backlash, she remained undeterred about being vocal about the cause. The actress even founded LiveLoveLaugh (LLL) in 2015. Speaking about her struggle, the actress said, "On 15th February 2014, I vividly remember waking up with a hollow feeling in my stomach. I felt empty and directionless. I had become irritable and would cry endlessly. For someone who loves to multitask, making decisions suddenly felt like a burden. Waking up every morning had become a struggle. I was exhausted and often thought of giving up." However, Deepika persevered and encouraged seeking professional help. "My love-hate relationship with the illness has taught me so much. To be patient for one, that you are not alone, but most importantly, that there is Hope." she mentioned.
Recently, Somy Ali took to Instagram to send good wishes to Deepika Padukone for being such a vocal advocate for mental health. She posted a lengthy post with a caption that read, "Today, I would like to bow my head down and simultaneously salute this beautiful young lady. She has talent, intellect and above all, courage. As someone who knows what depression feels like and has inherited it from my mother. I THANK YOU! It's never easy to be vulnerable and particularly a star of this caliber. You are a real hero! "There were days when I just didn't want to wake up, I would sleep because sleep for me was an escape," said Deepika Padukone An estimated 3.8% of the population experience depression, including 5% of adults (4% among men and 6% among women), and 5.7% of adults older than 60 years. Approximately 280 million people in the world have depression (1). Depression is about 50% more common among women than among men (sic.)"

Deepika then reposted the affectionate post and added a prayer hands emoji as a sign of gratitude. It's worth noting that Somy runs her own NGO for survivors of human trafficking. As 'Mental Health Day 2023' approaches, this interaction sends the right message out to all those who are silently struggling.
On the work front, Deepika is riding high on the success of her role in 'Jawan'. She's also gearing up for 'Fighter' alongside Hrithik Roshan.
