Rhea Chakraborty was dating Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide on June 14, 2020. After the tragic and unfortunate incident, the actress came under the scanner of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate. She was accused of several charges. Rhea along with her brother, Showik were in police custody for multiple weeks.
At the recently held India Today Conclave 2023, Rhea opened up about her jail sentence. The actress said, "Jail is quite interesting. It is a difficult place mentally, but it is not society. It is like you are removed from society and put in this thing. You are no longer fit for society. You become a UT number. It is a lot of disassociation with your ego and who you think you are. There is a lot of learning that comes from jail. My biggest learning moment was when I saw people in jail grab on to any iota of happiness that they found. If they find happiness for two minutes, they will laugh the loudest and they will be the happiest. It's so rare that they fully snatch it."
Talking about moving on after Sushant's demise, Rhea said, "Moving on is one thing that makes us human. It makes us survive, it helps us keep going no matter what happens in our lives, be it tragedy, pandemic, and in my case, jail. You want to move on. I am really looking forward to moving on. It has been hard to live a normal life again, like going for a walk, or a salon for a haircut or going for dinner with your parents. I was going through a person's loss in my life and there was so much media attention. I wasn't allowed time to grieve. All of that has come and those small victories are very exciting to me. I am grateful I am able to lead a normal life again now."

Rhea remembered Sushant and shared, "I don't think that hole can ever be filled. I miss him and it's going to be very difficult to live the rest of my life without that friend, that partner, that companion. But, life has happened to both of us and one has to move on."
Rhea returned to work and is currently seen as one of the judges on MTV Roadies.
