Ricky Kej and AR Rahman
Following his Grammy Award win on Sunday, Indian-origin musician Ricky Kej has expressed interest in collaborating with Grammy winner AR Rahman, who, he says, emailed him to congratulate him on his win. While Kej has collaborated with several Indian artistes, including Salim-Suleiman, Neeti Mohan and Benny Dayal, an association with his "friend" Rahman is pending.
Kej's Grammy win on Sunday marked the second one for him after 2015's Winds of Samsara. His collaborative work with American drummer Stewart Copeland, titled Divine Tides, speaks of the need for environmental conservation.
Naveen Manoharan of Lahiri Music, which backed the album, says, "Ricky came to us for the little support that he needed. Divine Tides is the outcome of the collaboration of Ricky Kej and Stewart Copeland, and the win is just an endorsement of [their prowess as musicians]." Manoharan, whose company is also presenting KGF: Chapter 2, says when catering to the four south Indian languages, they turn to talent more than experience when selecting singers.
