Sidharth Malhotra made his grand debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year in 2012, and went on to do films like Kapoor and Sons, Ek Villain, Brothers, Ittefaq, and Aiyaary. He now has Mission Majnu, Shershaah, and also could be teaming up with Amitabh Bachchan for the thriller, Aankhen 2.
In an interview with Times of India, the actor talked about his journey in movies, doing modeling for pocket money, and how he had nobody who could recommend him in the Hindi film industry.
He said, "I had zero experience on camera and no uncle or aunty recommended me, so I could only learn from my mistakes." He added, "I did modelling for pocket money. I became an assistant director in my mid 20's (Dostana, My Name is Khan) and I was thrilled to be on set and even do all the dirty jobs that ADs do."
Talking about shifting base from Delhi to Mumbai, the actor stated, "I feel it's just the beginning for me. A lot of hard work has gone into landing from Delhi to Mumbai. Shifting several houses, staying away from family. It has taken me many years to get to Bandra from Malad East (smiles). Malad-Goregaon-Andheri-Juhu and now Bandra. I am in Mumbai since the past ten years!"

When asked about the failure an actor faces in Bollywood and how it can take a toll, he said, "You have to keep going. I don't think I have arrived, the best is yet to come. Also, I am not obsessed with what's written about me. I'd rather do activities that are more fulfilling like travelling, sports, workout, horse-riding, hanging out with my non-industry friends as that gives you a sense of normalcy."
