Bollywood's iconic playback singer Alka Yagnik left fans off-guard after revealing that she's been diagnosed with a rare sensory hearing loss that has kept her out of the limelight for some time now. Alka penned a note on Instagram sharing why she's been missing in action.
The 90s queen wrote, "To all my fans, friends, followers and well-wishers. A few weeks ago, as I walked out of a flight, I suddenly felt I was not able to hear anything. Having mustered some courage in the weeks following the episode, I want to break my silence now for all my friends and well-wishers who have been asking me why I'm missing in action."
"It has been diagnosed by my docs as a rare sensory neural nerve hearing loss, due to a viral attackâ¦This sudden, major setback has caught me completely unaware. As I attempt to come to terms with it please keep me in your prayers," she added.
"For my fans and young colleagues, I would add a word of caution regarding exposure to very loud music and headphones. One day, I wish to share the health perils of my professional life. With all your love and support I am hoping to recalibrate my life and come back to you soon. Your support and understanding will mean the world to me in this critical hour," concluded Alka.

Born on March 20, 1966, Alka Yagnik started her career singing bhajans for Akashvani and later became successful with the popular dance track 'EK Do Tee' from the 1988 movie 'Tezaab' and 'Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai' along with Ila Arun from 1993 film 'Khal Nayak' and was among the topmost singers of the 90s era singing almost 9,000 songs in 300 films.
Her romantic duets with Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan, and Sonu Nigam are still loved. After Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, she is the third topmost female singer who has sung the maximum number of female solos in movies.
