Vicky Kaushal
Vicky Kaushal's latest family drama was release on Sept 22. The film directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya of 'Dhoom 3' fame was backed by Yash Raj Films. The film also stars Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra and Alka Amin, among others. Despite a strong cast, the film failed to attract audiences to the theatres and the same has reflected at the box office. In its first weekend, the film has managed to earn a little over Rs 5 crore.
According to the website Sacnilk.com, The Great Indian Family film had opened with Rs 1.4 crore nett in India on Friday, and collected Rs 1.72 crore on Saturday, registering an estimated 22.86% increase. Even on Sunday, the film only saw a small jump by collecting Rs 2 crore, as per early estimates reported by Sacnilk.com. So far, the film has done a business of Rs 5.12 crore nett in India, as per the portal.
Vicky plays the role of Bhajan Kumar, the most popular bhajan singer in town. However, a letter from the past leads to some revelation about his birth, hinting that he might not have been born a Hindu, after all.
Director Vijay Krishna Acharya attempts to present this religious identity crisis in a humourous way, setting the film in small-town, colourful India, with its plethora of entertaining characters. Manushi takes on the role of a strong, opinionated woman whose journey unfolds as a cornerstone of support for Vicky's character. Audiences will adore their on-screen chemistry, making this film a must-watch
"It is a celebration of our family values, our diversity. It is all said in a way, which is not like where we are trying to teach or preach you something. It is said in a way that is entertaining. It will make you laugh, it will make you feel good about being part of the Indian family and culture," Vicky had told PTI ahead of the film's release.
Before 'The Great Indian Family', Vicky Kaushal was seen in the film 'Zara Hatke Zara Bachke' opposite Sara Ali Khan. The film fared well at the box office.
