Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty
Raj Kundra's film 'UT69' hit the theatres today. In the film, Kundra plays himself and narrates his time in the Arthur Road prison where he was kept as an undertrial in a pornography case. In July 2021, the businessman was booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Indecent Representation of Women (Prevention) Act, and Information Technology Act for allegedly distributing and transmitting pornographic videos. He was granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court after serving one-and-a-half months in Arthur Jail.
With his film released in theatres, Kundra's wife and actor Shilpa Shetty took to her Instagram to cheer for her husband with a heartfelt note. Sharing a small clip from the movie where an emotional Kundra can be seen leaving the jail premises, Shilpa wrote, "My dearest Cookie, I know I say many things⦠but, this is something I want you to remember! YOU are special & brave, and I am soooo proud of you."
"Many people go through hardships⦠some become cynical, some bitter, & some even change. What is admirable is how YOU have taken it all in your stride and embraced life's journey with positivity," she added.
Talking about the film, Shetty further wrote, "UT69 celebrates the human spirit and shows how one can turn adversities into strength. You're a living example of that.
We all have our journeys - and you have endured yours with faith and patience. Last but not least, UT69 is entertaining despite dealing with a delicate subject and kudos to @shahnawazali1 for handling this incredible story with a cinematic lens that balances dark humour & gut-wrenching emotions. It's not an easy task, but you pulled it off. Congratulations to the entire team (most are debutants)".

"It's a slice of your life, @onlyrajkundra, and you have put your life into it. Wishing you all only the very best. As an actor, you are a natural! Unbelievable, considering it's your first film (I thought I was the only actor at home now I stand corrected) Please watch this beautiful film, out in the theatres today⦠it's ALL HEART," she concluded.
In an interview with Mid-day, Kundra revealed how Shilpa Shetty's inner strength saw them through the tough times. "Initially, Shilpa couldn't handle it because all my businesses were shut down overnight. When I [was released], I was broken. I'd be shaking half the time [in fear]. Shilpa helped me; she got me a psychiatrist. I was put on medication. When I was in jail, I knew she was hurt. She would write that to me in the letters we exchanged then, but she also sympathised with what I went through. She is a Devi for me. She also did things she didn't believe she could. I apologised to her as she had to go through this because of me."
