IN PHOTOS: Bomman and Bellie from 'The Elephant Whisperers' pose with the Oscar at an event in Mumbai

Bomman and Bellie who hail from a small village in Tamil Nadu have won the hearts of people from across the globe. The two were the central characters of Oscar winning Documentray 'The Elephant Whisperers' along with elephants and Raghu and Ammu. The film was directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga who received the Oscars on March 12 in Los Angeles. After coming to India, Netflix held an event to honour the team of The Elephant Whisperes along with Bomman and Bellie, the elephant caretakers

Set in the Mudumalai National Park in Tamil Nadu, The Elephant Whisperers follows the story of an orphaned elephant calf named Raghu in the care of Bomman and Bellie, an indigenous couple.

Bomman and Belli were flown to Mumbai to attend an event in the city in honour of the team of 'The Elephant Whisperers'. The couple happily posed with the Oscar for the press and also spoke to the media about their experience. (Pic-Pallav Paliwal)

Talking to the media at a post-Oscars celebration event, Bellie said in Tamil: "I was really apprehensive of raising Raghu earlier because I knew that one day Raghu will have to go in the wild, the world where he belongs."

"To take any child away from a mother is not a painful experience to say the least. But when I came to know that Raghu's mother had passed away, I couldn't say no to being with him. How could you say no to such a beautiful baby?"

Recently, Kartiki had met Bomman and Bellie and share the landmark moment with them. She also shared a photo of the couple posing with Oscar trophy and wrote, "It's been a long four months since we've been apart and now I feel like I'm home…” Needless to say, the lovely image has won the internet over
