Shia Labeouf's recent speech has raised serious questions on his state of mind. Hitlist takes a look at some such celebrities who pretty much ruined their own careers thanks to a self-destructive streak

Shia Labeouf
Shia Labeouf recently screamed some motivational words in a video. Though released a month back, the video has recently gone viral with memes and parodies flooding the Internet. Time and again we've seen talented actors who seem to have it all. Fame, glamour and the associated perks but we've also seen them let it all slip right through their hands thanks to a self-destructive streak. We give you a lowdown of some actors who pretty much ruined their own careers.
Amanda Bynes
Though she was very popular and loved as a Nickelodeon kid, Bynes spiralled downwards pretty quickly. After acting in a couple of moderately successful movies, Bynes announced that she was retiring from Hollywood. After several, not-so graceful run-ins with the law, her issues finally saw her in a mental health care treatment after she started a fire in front of a stranger's house. She also went onto a social networking site claiming her father abused her as a child and also went on record calling Rihanna and Obama âugly'. Oh, Amanda!
Lindsay Lohan
The actress became a household name with movies like Parent Trap, Freaky Friday and Mean Girls. She also became a favourite target for the paparazzi. After arrests for cocaine possession, several visits to the rehab, a fallout with her family and a high-profile lesbian relationship, Lohan now seems to be picking up the pieces of her once glamorous life, but we wonder if it's too late.
Britney Spears
The teen sensation does seem to have cleaned up her act and is trying to get her career back on track. But not before a supremely troubled past and relationships. Spears was hailed as a talented singer when she started off, but she received flak for her suggestive song Hit Me Baby One More Time. Following that were a few scandalous love affairs, going bald in full public view, and being photographed while driving drunk. The singer, however, seems to have redeemed herself and is trying hard to not let her career fall apart, which is commendable.
Macaulay Culkin
Probably the saddest of them all, Culkin rose to super stardom with the success of Home Alone, which continues being a holiday classic. A nasty custody battle between the then teenager and his parents was followed by an arrest in 2004 for possession of pot. Culkin was repeatedly ostracised for his drug use and that soon became his identity. These days, he performs with his underground cover band called The Pizza Underground that features lyrics related to pizza. Well.
Charlie Sheen
He earned himself a reputation of being an air-headed, arrogant party animal pretty early in his career. His unapologetically crazy lifestyle, that seemed to only include drinking, women and occasional acting, saw him being fired from the hit TV show Two and a Half Men. His career since that not-so dignified ouster has never really recovered. On the personal front too, Sheen has been married thrice and is the father of five children.
Michael Jackson
Easily one of the biggest names pop music will ever know, Michael Jackson carries a legacy that is rare. For some odd reasons, unbeknownst to the world, Jackson's lifestyle kept getting stranger and stranger. Along with multiple cosmetic surgeries, he had an odd affinity towards spending time with children, and rumoured drug abuse. In 2003, a documentary was released which revealed scandalous details of his life like sleeping arrangements with a young boy. The star passed away in 2009, but continues being an object of mystery and rumour.
