Katie Holmes didn't once mention Tom Cruise in interview right before split

The 33-year-old posed for the cover of C magazine's September issue just seven days before filing for divorce, and sat down for an interview with the publication the day before the split was announced, WWD reports.

"There's really no way we could have known - she was in such great spirits," CBS News quoted C editor Jenny Murray as telling ‘Entertainment Tonight.'

In the interview, Holmes said, "I'm ready to take on some more challenging roles. I feel like I worked so much at such a young age that I really wanted to have life experiences. I feel more balanced and that I have more to bring to the table."

C senior editor Kelsey McKinnion, who met with Holmes for the interview, told WWD, that most noticeable in the interview was the fact that she had not once taken Cruise's name.

"Going back over the tapes, there were signs: Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand," she said.

"Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription," McKinnion said.

According to WWD, when asked if having daughter Suri, now 6, brought them close together, Holmes replied, "I don't know. I mean...I don't know. People have been having babies a long time."

Cruise and Holmes had announced earlier this month that they had reached a divorce settlement. Last week, it was revealed that Holmes would return to Broadway this fall in the play "Dead Accounts."u00a0
