These international filmmakers are in no mood to hang up their boots yet

Much like their timeless movies, many directors prefer to defy age and are nowhere close to hanging up their microphone. With the septuagenarian Ridley Scott turning 78 today, we list auteurs who aren't letting their age come in the way of their passion

These international filmmakers are in no mood to hang up their boots yet

Ridley Scott

Age:
78
Lowdown: One of the busiest filmmakers around, he has four film releases in 2016 and this year marks his biggest movie ever, 'Exodus: Gods and Kings'. The meticulous director is known for his zeal for excessive risk with scripts but isn't afraid to fail.

Martin Scorsese

Age:
73
Lowdown: When Robert De Niro jested about the celebrated director replacing him with Leonardo DiCaprio (Gangs of New York, The Aviator, etc) the thespian made a sly reference to the fact that he's ageing while Scorsese appears to stay young in his craft.

Woody Allen

Age:
79
Lowdown: For the last four decades, not one year has passed by without this evergreen filmmaker working on a film that saw a release. His critics may suggest that he shouldn't be churning out movies like an assembly line but he does what he wants to. And wonderfully, too.

Jean-Luc Godard

Age:
84
Lowdown: Call him a French genius or a maverick but the fact remains that one of the oldest active filmmakers on this planet - with films like The 400 Blows to his credit - also happens to be the busiest visionary around with a slew of films happening every year.

Roman Polanski

Age:
82
Lowdown: Controversies don't seem to leave this Polish filmmaker alone while he has no intention of bowing down to pressure as his filmography continues to blossom. Venus of Fur (2013) was his last directorial release and he's currently working on his next.

Francis Ford Coppola

Age:
76
Lowdown: The man behind gems such as The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now (1979) is still active behind the scenes, if not the camera itself. Although he doesn't seem keen on directing films he's producing them every single year without fail.

Clint Eastwood

Age: 85
Lowdown: This old man of Hollywood can give a young heart a run for his spirit. Clint Eastwood has been compelling not only on the filmmaking front but also music composition. Gran Torino, someone?

Werner Herzog

Age:
73
Lowdown: This German legend stays on the pedestal when it comes to documentary filmmaking. Dare is too feeble a word for the kind of courage his films exhibit, be it Grizzly Man (2005) or Hate in America.

Bernardo Bertolucci

Age:
75
Lowdown: Of late, he's showing keen interest in writing but his first love remains cinema. Or should we say, cinema at its purest form? As is the case with most auteurs, he dabbles in docus every now and then only to go back to a feature films like Dreamers.
