According to court documents obtained by Radar Online, McLanahan has claimed that he came up with the concept of the movie when he wrote the screenplay titled 'Head On' in 1998. McLanahan has alleged that after submitting the script to the US Copyright Office, 'Head On' received a copyright certificate protecting its material and author from unauthorized use.

McLanahan asserted that he immediately recognized the scripts for the 51-year-old actor's movie had been illegally written and produced from his 1998 copyright. Along with Cruise, McLanahan has also filed a lawsuit against Paramount Pictures, talent agency William Morris Agency, who supposedly forwarded his script without his knowledge to Cruise's rep Creative Artist Agency.
