Sofia Helin and Tobias Santelmann's Atlantic Crossing emerged as the big winner of the International Emmys, where Indian projects, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Serious Men (acting category), Sushmita Sen-starrer Aarya, and Vir Das: For India, were also contending. Even though none of the Indian shows won, the night marked an important one for the country on a global stage.
Atlantic Crossing won the prize for Best TV Movie or Mini-series. A historical drama set during World War II, it tells the story of the Crown Princess of Norway, fleeing to America to escape the Nazi invasion of her country.

Kan 11 and Apple's Israeli spy thriller Tehran took home the Best Drama Series title. It was in this category that Sen's Aarya was nominated, along with Chile's El Presidente, and the second season of There She Goes from the UK. Season four of French show Call My Agent! won for Best Comedy.
British actor Hayley Squires won the Best Actress for her performance in the Channel 4 porn industry drama, Adult Material. David Tennant won the Best Actor title for Des.
NBA star Dirk Nowitzki presented this year's Lifetime Achievement Honor to Thomas Bellut, director-general of German public broadcaster, ZDF.
Das, who spoke exclusively to mid-day ahead of the big night, took to Instagram following the show to share, "I was nominated for Best Comedy at the International Emmy Awards, for jokes. Call My Agent, a gigantic beautiful show I love, won. But I got this medal, and ate this fantastic salad with a very interesting crispy cheese topping. It was an honour to represent my country. Thanks so much."
Organised by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the International Emmys aim at "recognizing excellence in television produced outside of the U.S. for over 48 years". A record 24 countries were represented across the 44 nominees of the gala.
