Director-writer K Subash, who had penned Rohit Shetty's 2013 superhit 'Chennai Express', passed away yesterday at a Chennai hospital where he was undergoing treatment for a kidney ailment. He was 57.
Subash is the son of R Krishnan, co-director of the 1952 blockbuster 'Parasakthi', which was the debut vehicle of thespian Sivaji Ganesan. He started his career as an assistant to Mani Ratnam and went on to direct nearly two dozen films in Tamil and Hindi.

Subash had worked on multi-starrer comedy 'Housefull 3' that released earlier this year and was the director of 'Insaan' (2005) starring Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in lead roles. He was also one of the many directors for 'Suyamvaram', a Tamil film featuring a galaxy of stars shot in just 24 hours.
