If sources are to be believed, not one but three big production houses are seeking to buy the rights to the Kannada romcom 'Googly'. Directed by Pawan Wadeyar and produced by Jayanna Combines, this film had released in July last year.

The film starred Yash and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead, while Ananth Nag and Sadhu Kokila played supporting roles. The film released on July 19 last year and opened to a great response at the box office. The film has now been declared a super hit.

It is no wonder then that production houses have made a beeline for the film's Hindi remake rights. It is being said that Eros, Endemol and John Abraham's film production company, JA Entertainment, have been vying for the rights to the film.

Citing box office reports, a source says, "'Googly' earned more than a crore on the first day and 45 million (US$720,000) within the first four days of its release. Especially in Bangalore, Mysore and Mandya, the film received a very good response. According to the producer, the film has collected a whopping 70 million (US$1.1 million) gross at the box office in its first week. Now its satellite rights have been sold for 20 million (US$320,000)."

The source adds, "While these three production houses are keen to buy the remake rights, nothing has been finalised yet. This is because the director Pawan Wadeyar wants to direct the Hindi remake as well. He is now looking for a producer who will let him direct the film. Both the director and the producer own the rights to the film."

John Abraham and Eros remained unavailable for comment whereas Deepak Dhar, MD, Endemol India, replied that he had nothing to say about this. "No comments as yet on this," was his text reply.
