Some filmmakers have given up their honour to express their support to protesting FTII students. Several writers, too, have returned their awards in protest against the attack on intellectuals.
The veteran actor-filmmaker, however, feels that returning the award is as an insult to the government and the people who lovingly bestowed the award on the winners.
He reportedly stated, "It is a futile exercise; intolerance must be defeated intellectually." Meanwhile, Anupam Kher refers to the filmmakers who gave up their honour as the âAward Wapsi' gang.
