Two actors are missing and feared drowned after they dived into a lake while performing a stunt for the Kannada film "Masti Gudi". Authorities have launched search operations.
The tragic incident took place at Tippagondanahalli Lake on Magadi Road, which is 35kms west of Bengaluru.
The shocking scene captured on camera unfolded as Anil and Uday performed the helistunt in which popular Kannada actor
Duniya Vijay was also involved but swam to safety.
Anil and Uday were performing the stunt
Anil and Uday were seen splashing the water apparently struggling to save themselves after the jump before they went
missing. A diesel boat meant to be a standby for rescue reportedly developed some glitches.
As a part of the stunt, the hero of the film Duniya Vijay, and two stuntmen Anil and Uday, jumped into the lake from a helicopter. While Vijay managed to swim to the shore, the other two could not do the same. A search operation has been launched for the missing actors. A team of expert swimmers are now on the spot, according to a report in News Minute.
News Minute quoted sources as saying that inadequate safety measures and absence of prior rehearsal of the shoot resulted in this incident. Also, it is not sure yet if the actors had been provided with safety harnesses. There were reportedly no speed boats or ambulances on standby during the time of the shoot.
Accidents during film shoots have happened in the past. One of the most famous, or actually infamous, in film history is that suffered by megastar Amitabh Bachchan on the sets of "Coolie". Malayalam actor Jayan also died in an accident on the sets of the film "Kolilakkam" in 1980.
