'Aavesham' star Fahadh Faasil reveals he was diagnosed with ADHD at age 41

Actor Fahadh Faasil has revealed that he was clinically diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 41. He was speaking at an event to spread awareness on the topic

Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, who is among the finest actors in India recently revealed that he has ADHD. Speaking at a public event recently, the actor shared that he was clinically diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 41. The 'Aavesham' actor was inaugurating Peace Valley Children's Village in Kothamangalam, a facility that caters to developmentally challenged children.

While walking through the premises of the school, I inquired whether it's easy to cure ADHD. I was told, if diagnosed in childhood, it is possible. I asked whether it could be cured if diagnosed at 41. That's when I was clinically diagnosed with ADHD," said Fahad at the event and went on to spread awareness on the topic. The actor shared his discussion with one of the top executives of the facility. "I asked him whether ADHD can be treated easily and he replied, it can be treated more effectively if diagnosed during childhood itself."

Addressing the crowd, particularly referring to the children gathered, Fahadh offered all his support for the facility and added, "If you can smile when you see me, that's the greatest thing I can do for you."

What Is ADHD?

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. It's a brain disorder that affects how you pay attention, sit still, and control your behavior. It happens in children and teens and can continue into adulthood. ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorders in children. It's usually spotted during the early school years, when a child begins to have problems paying attention.

ADHD can't be prevented or cured. But spotting it early, plus having a good treatment and education plan, can help you or your child with ADHD manage symptoms.

ADHD Types and Symptoms in Children
There are three types of ADHD diagnosed in children:

Inattentive

A child with inattentive ADHD may:

Be easily distracted
Have trouble following directions or finishing tasks
Have poor listening skills
Have trouble paying attention
Make careless mistakes
Forget things easily
Have problems organizing daily tasks
Have trouble sitting still
Often lose things
Daydream a lot
Hyperactive-impulsive

A child with with this type of ADHD may:

Often squirm, fidget, or bounce when sitting
Have trouble staying seated
Not be able to play quietly by themselves
Always be moving, such as running or climbing on things
Talk excessively
Have trouble waiting for their turn
Blurt out answers
Interrupt others

On the work front:

Directed by Jithu Madhavan, 'Aavesham' also stars Ashish Vidyarthi, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Sajin Gopu. The Malayalam movie which became a rage narrates the tell of three teenagers who move to Bengaluru for college and end up in a fight with their seniors. To help survive, they seek help from a local gangster.

Fahadh portrayed a Bengaluru gangster with roots in Kerala and Karnataka. He is dressed entirely in white and sports a thick handlebar moustache.

The acclaimed actor earlier told Manorama Online why he had chosen to play the character. "I have not explored such characters before, so when this story came to me, I said yes. My character is loud in this movie, unlike the ones I did in the past. Also, I speak a mix of Kannada and Malayalam," he said.
