The 69th National Film Awards was announced on August 24. The films that were censored in 2021 were in consideration for the awards. Before announcing the awards, the panellist noted how the winners list will leave some happy and some disappointed and not possible for them to appease all.
Before the National Award winners were announced, excited fans took to Twitter to root for their favourite movies and actors. Among the films that stood out were 'RRR', 'Gangubai Kathiawadi', 'Jai Bhim', 'Nayattu', 'Karnan', 'Pushpa'. While 'RRR' sweeped many awards, Allu Arjun won the Best Actor for 'Pushpa'. 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' also won several awards including Best Actress for Alia Bhatt and Best Editing and Adapted screenplay for Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
However, 'Jai Bhim' starring Suriya not winning a single award did not go unnoticed by fans. While fans expressed disappointment at the Tamil film based on caste atrocities being neglected, Telugu superstar Nani also expressed the same.
Nani took to his Instagram stories on Friday morning wrote 'Jai Bhim' along with a heart broken red heart emoji.

'Jai Bhim' is an emotionally charged courtroom drama, helmed by TJ Gnanavel, delves into social disorders and injustices. Suriya essayed the role of a lawyer and gave a power-packed performance in the film. Lijomol Jose as Sengeni and K Manikandan as Rajakannu also gave performance worth remembering in the film.
Meanwhile, Suriya, who is also the producer of Jai Bhim took to Twitter after the National Award announcement and congratulated the winners in a series of tweets.
"My heartfelt wishes to all winners of the #69thNationalFilmAwards from Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi & other States #KadaisiVivasayi #RRR
@mmkeeravaani Sir @premrakchoreo #IravinNizhal special congrats to @aliaa08 her Gangubhai is a fav performance," he wrote.
Dhanush's 'Karnan' was another film that was completely snubbed by the National Awards. The film revolves around a small village in Tamil Nadu that is inhabited by people belonging to a lower caste. Karnan, a young man, is revolted by the inhuman treatment given to his villagers and fights for their rights.
