Suriya and Jyotika first met on the sets of the Tamil film 'Poovellam Kettuppar' in 1999
Suriya who hails from Tamil Nadu and a film family had already done a few movies by then. But for Jyotika, it was one of her first Tamil movies, making it hard for her to adjust to the language. Suriya stepped in and helped her with her dialogues
Later in 2003, Suriya and Jyotika acted in the film 'Kaakha Kaakha', directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon. It is believed that the couple started dating during the filming of 'Kaakha Kaakha'

Suriya and Jyotika do not often share pictures of their kids on social media. They had posted this picture of their kids posing with their National Awards for their jointly produced film 'Soorarai Pottru'. The film also earned Suriya a National Award
Jyothika took a hiatus from acting after marriage and moved from Mumbai to Chennai. The couple were then blessed with two children - Diya in 2007 and Dev in 2010

Jyotika made a power-packed comeback in 2015 with the Tamil film '26 Vayadhinile'. She then went on to do character-driven films like 'Udanpirappe', 'Ponmagal Vandhal', 'Kaathal – The Core', 'Srikanth' among others
